Wall Lamps
On returning home after a long and hard day at work, you are greeted by dim, subtle lighting at the entrance of your home and there is the scent of vanilla in the air. On further venturing into the room, you find the room fully decorated to celebrate your anniversary. Lighting plays a very important role in situations like this where they help to change the atmosphere completely and gives a very different feel to the entire place. A wide variety of lighting appliances are available that aids you in creating the atmosphere that you want. Wall lights are very essential in changing the atmosphere of the room and creating the mood that you are looking for. Some of the most commonly used wall lights are sconces, swivel arms, wall cans and make up lights.
Sconces are like light holders that were used to hold candles and torches during the old days when castles used to exist. But today sconces are available in many designs, which are both traditional as well as contemporary. There are some kinds of sconces, which need a lampshade. Some of them spread light in all directions while some of them shed light either directly above or below the lamp. Sconces are usually placed in pairs and they are normally found near doors and windows. They can be used to highlight a painting or they can even be placed on top of a fireplace. Sconces can also be placed on top of chairs. They should be placed directly on top of the chair. Sconces can also be placed on both sides of a large working desk or even a grandfather clock. A sconce should normally be placed at a height of 5’6” from the ground. Low-level lighting should be used along with sconces.
Swivel arm lamps are made for specific jobs. These lamps have long rams which makes it easy to turn them in any direction and help in lighting up a specific area like a book that you want to read in bed or your working desk or your card table. A wall can lamp is somewhat similar to a swivel arm lamp as this is also task specific. Before this, only table lamps were used while working at your work desk. The table lamp was placed on top of the night table and it helped to light the area immediately around it. Wall lights have been made in order to serve the same purpose as a table lamp but since they are fixed on the wall, they help in keeping the worktable free for other things like clocks, telephones and radios.
Lights, which are used while applying make-up, are usually incandescent bulbs, which help in highlighting the area around the mirror. There are certain lights, which will create shadows, and these should definitely not be placed over a make-up table, a vanity or a bathroom mirror. The light that is placed on the top of a make-up mirror should cast a light that does not contain shadows.
